Health And Safety Risk

IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION FOR SNORKELLING AND DIVING AT LADY MUSGRAVE ISLAND

1770 Reef – Your Gateway to the Great Barrier Reef

We ask all guests visiting Lady Musgrave Island with 1770 Reef to please take a moment to read this short but important safety message before participating in recreational snorkelling and/or diving.

⚠️ Snorkelling is a Strenuous Physical Activity

Participating in snorkelling, even in calm water, can increase your health and safety risk if you suffer from any of the following:

  • Medical conditions that may be worsened by physical exertion (e.g. heart disease, asthma, or lung conditions)
  • Medical conditions that can result in loss of consciousness (e.g. some forms of epilepsy and diabetic conditions)
  • Asthma that can be triggered by cold water or saltwater mist
  • Taking any medication that may cause drowsiness

🚨 Higher Risk for Older Individuals

Older guests may have a higher risk of serious injury or death due to a greater likelihood of medical conditions that can be worsened by physical exertion, such as heart disease or stroke.

🗣️ Please Inform Our Team

1770 Reef staff are here to help ensure your safety. You are strongly encouraged to speak with any member of our Island Team — including your:

  • Orientation Supervisor

…about any current or past medical conditions, or if you have any concerns about your physical ability to safely participate in snorkelling or diving.

✍️ Risk Acknowledgement and Waivers

By signing the Snorkel Risk Management Assessment upon arrival, you acknowledge that you have:

  • Read and understood the Guidelines for Recreational Snorkelers Declaration Waiver
  • Spoken with 1770 Reef staff about any health or safety concerns you may have

If you plan to dive or are trying diving for the first time, please make sure to:
